Construction of hospitals satisfactory

Construction of the 70-bed capacity primary hospitals in Shakawe and Moshupa is progressing well.
Delivering the State of the Nation Address in Parliament yesterday, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said the two projects were at 95 and 25 per cent completion stage respectively.
President Masisi said 69 staff housing units for Moshupa hospital were also under construction at 15 per cent, while the upgrading of Tutume and Gumare primary hospitals was at the design stage.
He said the refurbishment of three old hospitals in Mahalapye, Sefhare and Serowe was complete, while construction work was ongoing at the old Maun and Scottish Livingstone hospitals, stating that the facilities would enhance service provision in the respective areas.
Dr Masisi said the construction of seven clinics and associated housing units, which commenced in the 2018/19 financial year, was ongoing at Makgophana ward in Mochudi, Toteng, Ngarange, D’kar, Dibete, Sepopa and Kauxwi with progress ranging from 12 to 97 per cent.
He said government, in collaboration with development partners and donors, had constructed and completed clinics in Kumakwane, Lotlhakane West and Magapatona ward in Tutume.
Regarding the donor-funded projects, President Masisi said progress at Letlhakane maternity ward was at 90 per cent, Borotsi at 42 per cent, Makalamabedi at 30 per cent, Maboane at five per cent while Molalatau was at 95 per cent completion stage.
Concerning the provision of accommodation, Dr Masisi said to date a total of 75 staff houses were complete in Kgalagadi, Greater Francistown, Tutume, Mabutsane, Bobirwa, Lobatse and Kweneng regions.
President Masisi said 18 staff houses in Maun, Shorobe and Makalamabedi were 92 per cent complete, the eight houses at Tsau and Sehithwa were at the tender stage while other staff houses were at various stages of construction ranging from 20 to 95 per cent.
He also said a total of 58 houses were procured from Botswana Housing Corporation through the Public Officers Housing Initiatives to address the acute shortage of accommodation for health workers. Ends
