Selebi Phikwe leadership praises President for small stock initiative

Selebi Phikwe leadership has commended President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi for donating rams to two young farmers of Selebi Phikwe East and Selebi Phikwe West constituencies.

Speaking at Selokwaneng and Phokoje lands on Friday(November 6), Selebi Phikwe East MP Mr Kgoberego Nkawana commended Dr Masisi for his small stock initiative which saw him donating rams to young farmers Mr Alpha Mokgadi and Mr Laone Nkonga.

Mr Nkawana said the initiative would not only improve the quality of stock for individual farmers but would go a long way in transforming the lives of Selebi-Phikwe residents.

He urged President Masisi to continue touching many lives and meeting the needs of Batswana especially residents of Selebi Phikwe who lost jobs after the closure of the BCL mine in 2016.

Also giving the initiative a thumbs up was Selebi Phikwe mayor Mr Lucas Modimana who described the donations as investments for the beneficiaries, their families and the nation at large.

“We expect return on this investment,” he said adding that international markets required high quality mutton and goat meat.

He urged the beneficiaries to feel free to approach him or any other government official for advice or assistance.

For their part, the beneficiaries Mr Mokgadi and Mr Nkonga thanked President Masisi for choosing them among all the young farmers.

They promised to take care of their small stock projects and to likewise empower other farmers.

The two youthful farmers also promised to contribute positively to the economy of this country as well as to the Vision 2036 pillar of sustainable development.

Kgosi Boago Mosung of Botshabelo ward also hailed the presidential initiative saying it promoted the spirit of unity and self-reliance.

The President, he said,  was planting seeds the fruits of which would be enjoyed by all in the long run.Kgosi Mosung said President Masisi’s gifts should not only benefit individual farmers but should trickle down to the people of Selebi Phikwe.

The farmers also received drugs and farm equipment from the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Mr Karabo Gare. ends
