Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School has been identified as one of the centres of excellence that will be used to nurture students’ talent in sports. School head, Ms Obusitswe Motlhageng, said in an interview that in 2011 Mogoditshane senior school was identified as a school of excellence by the ministry of education in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.
“The school was transferred to Botswana National Sports Council earlier this year. Currently we are not in charge of students’ enrollment. The ministry facilitates the selection and admission process by identifying talented students through Botswana Integrated Sports Association,” she said.
She added that the main focus codes are athletics, boxing, football, karate and netball. She further revealed that Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School prides itself in being the first school to be furnished with a carpeted track.
For her part, the deputy school head, Ms Sekete Ngope, said students have been performing exceptionally well and winning trophies in all codes, in line with the school motto of ‘living excellence.’She said the school has been performing well without the necessary equipment and support for training, as they only received the first batch of training equipment from BNSC in July this year.
She added that Mogoditshane Senior School will be able to operate as a school of excellence because the BNSC is in the process of recruiting trained personnel for the selected sporting codes. The school has courts for various sport codes such as basketball, netball, volleyball and tennis, which are complete with spectator stands.
The school also has two fenced soccer pitches, one of which has a lawn and spectator stands.
