23 Sep 2013

Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu has commended St John Gospel Church in Nswazwi for living the scriptures that enjoin believers to help the less-privileged members of the community.

In his keynote address on September 21 during a hand over ceremony of a house the church built for a needy person in the village, Mr Batshu, who is also MP for Nkange, said it was commendable that individuals and various organisations were making great strides towards restoring the dignity of those whose conditions of living have for a long time been unfavourable.

He said efforts by many to meet government halfway in its endeavour to assist the under-privileged would in the long run prove worthwhile as more and more Batswana who were previously disadvantaged would also begin to have a taste of a better life.

He lauded the St John for its gesture; imploring other churches in the village to follow the admirable example that the congregation has set.Minister Batshu noted that a positive response to the presidential housing appeal would without doubt ensure the success of the initiative, in the end impacting positively on the lives of beneficiaries and their families.

Archbishop Tabaziba Gaothuse of the St John Church in Nswazwi told the gathering that his church was concerned about the lack of shelter by some community members.

He said it was true that lack of shelter could rob one of their dignity; hence the decision of the church to step in and build a house for one of the needy persons in the village. The beneficiary, Mr Amos Masilo expressed gratitude for the gesture that the church had shown him.

Mr Masilo said the move by the church to build him a house had not only restored his dignity, but had also given him hope for the future.
