Letlhakeng Sub-district has to date registered over 30 gender-based violence (GBV) related cases.

Speaking during Letlhakeng Sub-council session on November 2, chairperson Mr Meshack Tshenyego said 26 cases of defilement, seven rape, two incest,

two common theft and one of  unlawful wounding had been registered.

“The trend that has been observed over time is that these cases are increasing on a daily basis especially the defilement ones,” he said.

Councilor Tshenyego said the cases were at different stages in terms of investigations and prosecution.

The chairperson pleaded with all Batswana to take full responsibility and nip in the bud any form of child abuse.

“It is clear that this abuse is from us and I am appealing to you honourable councillors to show interest in the welfare of children at your respective wards and report any suspicion of abuse,” he said.ends
