Kgosi Duncan Segotsi of Mahalapye has commended the Crystal Victory Home A1 Challenge team for embarking on a noble initiative aimed at raising funds towards staging an appreciation ceremony for front line workers.
Speaking during a welcome ceremony organised for the team at Mahalapye main kgotla on Monday, Kgosi Segotsi wished the team well on their challenge walk, saying it was a good initiative.
Kgosi Segotsi also donated P200 to the team and encouraged the village leadership to donate.
Explaining the objective of their A1 Challenge walk to the village leadership, Crystal Victory Home A1 Challenge marketing director, Mr Otsile Sabela said they began their 10-day walk from
Gaborone on October 28, with youth empowerment, sport and culture development minister, Mr Tumiso Rakgare, as the chief walker.
He said they expected to arrive at Francistown Civic Centre on November 8.
“Our objective is to stage an appreciation ceremony for front line workers from proceeds of this walk,” added Mr Sabela.
“During the walk, we break after every 50 kilometres, to raise awareness on issues concerning COVID-19, by educating the public about safety precautions to be taken against COVID-19,” he added.
For his part, Crystal Victory Home A1 Challenge project coordinator, Mr Gorata Mbakile said through collaboration with other stakeholders, their organisation’s ultimate goal was to provide shelter, clothing and food to the needy, orphans, street children and people living with disabilities.
Since 2010, Mr Mbakile said Crystal Victory Home had been contributing towards various noble gestures, such as securing tertiary education placement for orphans and vulnerable children, donating school uniform to the needy students in various schools, donating food hampers to disadvantaged and vulnerable families and had built two houses for needy families.
“Through this walk, we are also planning to raise funds towards building a Kiddies Park. We envisage having a pre-school and accommodation for orphans and vulnerable children at this park,” said Mr Mbakile.
Crystal Victory Home is a non-profit making organisation aimed at promoting the social and developmental needs of communities.
The organisation was started by five youth graduates from different universities, in collaboration with community leaders to lobby, advocate and mobilise efforts towards empowering the needy.
The other three members of the Crystal Victory Home A1 Challenge are; Messrs Boitshepo Mbikiwa, Ronald Moatlhodi and Kings Moatshe. ENDS
