Good work ethics leadership crucial in economic growth

Good work ethics and leadership play a crucial role in economic growth as they ensure productivity and competitiveness, says Botswana National Productivity Center (BNPC) consultant Mr Oarabile Lesole.
Speaking at a workshop for Boteti Sub-district councillors recently, Mr Lesole said sustainable economic growth could not be achieved where there was poor work ethics.
Many observers had identified poor work ethic as a key factor in failure of both private and public sectors, he said.
Mr Lesole said the workshop would equip them with leadership skills for efficient service delivery.
He further encouraged them to benchmark best practices, conduct leadership forums, code of conduct for leadership and also create and sustain effective culture to improve work ethics and leadership qualities.
Councilor Mr Ketshwereng Galeragwe said the workshop would give participants the opportunity to discuss key factors that would enhance service delivery.
“The agenda seeks to empower all of us and enables us to make meaningful decisions in line with government national transformation agenda,” he said.
Councillor Mr Thomas Kgethenyane expressed appriciation for the presentations made at the workshop adding that they would try by all means to implement what they had learnt.
Another councillor, Mr Molemi Galeragwe, said good work ethics could only be realised if leaders set direction and pace in their organisations.
Leaders must have plans on what they wanted to achieve with a time frame for every plan, he said adding that, that would contribute to good work ethic and leadership. ENDS
