No plans to upgrade Nokaneng-Dobe road

01 Nov 2020

Government has no plans to upgrade the Nokaneng-Dobe road to bituminous standard as it is not in the National Development Plan 11.

This was said by Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo when answering a question at the 4th Ntlo ya Dikgosi recently.

He noted that upgrading of the road, together with other deserving candidate roads would be considered in the future development plans.

“The ministry will continue to maintain the road by dry grading it to improve its traffic ability”, he said.

Minister Segokgo said that maintenance of the Nokaneng-Gumare road was awarded to Evergreen Contractors to carryout asphalt overlay and road marking.

He noted that the primary reason behind the delay of the maintenance of the road was the performance of the contractor and other associated COVID-19 pandemic movement restrictions.

“My ministry is monitoring performance of the contractor and necessary actions will be taken in line with the contract governing the parties,” he said.

The project commenced on November 1, 2019 and was expected to be completed by October 21, 2020.

Kgosi Kebonyetsala Fish wanted the minister to state the cause of delay in maintaining the Nokaneng-Gumare Road.
