Ministry has no plans to construct senior school in Chobe
29 Oct 2020
Minister of Basic Education, Mr Fidelis Molao has told Ntlo ya Dikgosi that the ministry currently does not have plans to construct a new senior secondary school in Chobe.
Answering a question from Specially elected Kgosi Moffat Sinvula, he revealed that the ministry was planning to upgrade Chobe Junior Secondary school to a unified Secondary School, noting that the numbers of learners completing and qualifying for senior secondary education in Chobe and its catchment area did not currently warrant the construction of a new Senior School. He said the ministry had made submissions through thematic Working group (TWG) for infrastructure under NDP 11 for such an upgrade, but unfortunately due to budgetary constraints there had been no schools included in the NDP 11, further noting that the upgrading would be submitted for consideration under NDP 12.
Specially elected Kgosi Sinvula had asked if there were plans to construct a senior secondary school in Chobe as pupils had to travel to Nata and other places in Botswana for their senior secondary admission. ENDS
