Tirelo Setshaba facilitates relevant skills transfer
29 Oct 2020
Botswana National Service Programme, commonly known as Tirelo Setshaba, exists to facilitate relevant skills transfer, create the spirit of volunteerism amongst youth in the communities and engage them in extension work.
This was said by the Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Buti Billy in response to a question at Ntlo ya Dikgosi on Tuesday. He explained that the programme should be viewed as a developmental volunteer programme rather than employment.
Mr Billy indicated that Ghanzi district, like other districts, had engaged a considerable number of Tirelo Setshaba participants.
Mr Billy said the township had 205 participants while the entire district had a total of 305 participants, adding that all villages in Ghanzi district had Tirelo Setshaba participants.
He sad the ministry was not aware that some government departments had not engaged Tirelo Setshaba participants.
He said organisations were at liberty to request for participants if they needed them.
Mr Billy was responding to a question from Kgosi Esau Molehele of Ghanzi East who had asked the minister to explain why some government departments in Ghanzi did not engage Tirelo Setshaba participants in order to reduce unemployment and delinquency. ENDS
