28 Oct 2020

The Minister of Local Government Mr Eric Molale told Ntlo ya Dikgosi that he was aware that some long serving tribal administration staff members have been stagnant for sometimes due to lack of requisite qualifications.

He explained that promotion for all public officers was based on qualification, performance and the availability of higher posts. Mr Molale said the Ministry of Local Government through the Department of Tribal Administration had extended training to 112 officers at the institute of Development Management (IDM) and 100 officers at the Botswana Open University (BOU) across various fields in administration to bridge the gap as well as to make employees competitive with relevant qualifications.

Kgosi Oatleng Setlhodi had asked the minister if he was aware that there was lack of promotion for long serving staff members at the Batawana Tribal Administration and what he intended to do to rectify the grievances of those who deserve promotion.

The minster was also asked  to state the selection criteria for promotion. Ends
