Media freedom collaboration offer welcome

Britain’s offer  of collaborating with Botswana on media freedom issues has been embraced by Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Mr Kabo Morwaeng.

He was responding to British high commissioner to Botswana, Ms Sian Price during a courtesy call she paid on him Tuesday.

Ms Price had indicated her country’s keenness in supporting Botswana on issues of media  freedom and its development. 

Botswana, Mr Morwaeng said, believed in democracy, freedom of the media and would always work towards developing and improving the sector.

The minister said under circumstances of COVID-19 and its impacts, Botswana needed support of any kind as it had been negatively affected by the pandemic.

He further requested the ambassador to help market Botswana’s beef, diamonds and the tourism sector to help resuscitate the economy.

 Minister Morwaeng thanked the British government for its continued support to Botswana.

He said Botswana considered Britain a key development partner and remained open to broadening bilateral relations.

 Ms Price assured Minister Morwaeng of her country’s commitment to continue assisting Botswana in any way, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said Britain was willing to share and exchange cooperation ideas for development with Botswana in order to achieve common prosperity for both countries. Ends
