The just-ended Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) went well in all the 11 primary schools in Selebi Phikwe.
This was said by the chief education officer for Selebi Phikwe, Mr Elisha Masedi in an interview recently.
He said the examinations, which started on October 12 and ended on October 19, attracted a total number of 835 pupils in all the 11 primary schools in Selebi Phikwe. Of the 835 candidates, Mr Masedi said 411 were boys while 424 were girls.
However, Mr Masedi said all the candidates managed to seat for examinations, adding that none of them was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He thanked parents for working together with teachers to ensure that the children adhered to COVID-19 protocols.
Mr Masedi also applauded teachers for working tirelessly to ensure that students adhered to COVID-19 protocols at all times.
He said to date none of the pupils at Selebi Phikwe schools had contracted the coronavirus, urging parents and teachers to continue working together towards their children’s brighter future. He added that the Junior Certificate Examinations would be starting on November 2 and therefore called on all the stakeholders to work together to avoid local transmission of the virus in schools.
Meanwhile, Mr Masedi said the hand-wash basins installed in government schools at the beginning of second term were all functioning well, adding that vandalism was not acceptable.
He encouraged the pupils to take responsibility of wearing masks properly at all times and avoid overcrowding, especially after school. Mr Masedi said pupils had the tendency to flout the protocols after school, urging parents not to take longer to pick their children from school.
He also urged all the teachers and pupils to take care of themselves as COVID-19 cases were on the rise.
Mr Masedi said having COVID-19 positive cases in schools would disrupt the examinations as well as affect the teaching and learning process. Ends
