Monax Shelter cares for elderly at no cost

20 Oct 2020

Monax Shelter for Hope Trust coordinator, Ms Pinki Matsheka, says the organisation intends to take care of the elderly at no cost.

She was addressing a kgotla meeting in Tonota recently. The meeting was attended by people aged 65 and above.

She said Monax was a non-governmental organisation that was neither politically aligned, nor affiliated to any church, but focused on taking care of the elders across the country.

She commended the Monageng family, who availed their house to be used for accommodating elders in Metsimotlhabe.

Ms Matsheka urged residents of Tonota to send their elders to the centre to be cared for, adding that they provided meals, blankets, clothing and other necessities.

She said the trust started in 2005 to help reduce boredom among the elderly, especially that some were left alone at home for long hours.

Ms Matsheka called on the Tonota authorities to donate a five-hectare piece of land to the trust to buld a shelter and clinic, which will be elderly friendly.

She said it would be easy for the elderly to receive any form of assistance and play games together and feel comforted at the same time relieved from stress.

Chairperson of the trust, Mr David Moumakwa, said they had about 300 elders at their trust.

He said the intention was to cover all corners of the country and urged authorities in every village to avail land for the dream to become a reality. ENDS
