Farmers should use first rains
23 Sep 2013
The director of crop production, Mr Galesite Ramokapane has appealed to farmers to take advantage of the first rains.
Speaking at the launch of Kobalemakabe cluster fencing at Maunatlala recently, Mr Ramokapane said ploughing during the first rains was good to plants and explained that it was also helpful because the possibility of the plants being affected by the sunshine was low.
He pleaded with farmers to look after their cattle because livestock was not allowed to enter the fenced area. Mr Ramokapane said the introduction of cluster fencing would minimise cattle movement in the farming area. He also urged the farmers to de-bush their fields and take advantage of the ISPAAD program.
Furthermore, Mr Ramokapane encouraged them to view agriculture as a business opportunity in order to sustain their lives. The chairperson of the Kobalemakabe cluster fencing Mr Stanley Gabanthate expressed his commended the government for the provision of the cluster fencing facility. Ends
