The Department of Meteorological Services has advised the public about the expected weather conditions of very hot to extremely hot temperatures over the entire country from October 18 to 20.

A press release from the department says temperatures are expected to reach highs of between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius.

However, the release states that from October 21, temperatures are expected to decrease over most parts of the country with the exception of Ngamiland, Ghanzi and Kgalagadi where temperatures will remain high between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius.

It states that high temperature conditions are due to the persistence of a hot northerly continental air mass or wind flow which originates from the Angolan Low.

Therefore, members of the public are advised to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the adverse weather conditions by drinking more water regardless of their activity levels, avoid prolonged stay under the sun and if at all possible, stay under the shade, and protect themselves from the sun by wearing a wide breamed hat or umbrella.
