18 Oct 2020

San Konnecxion and Hip Hop Movement have been hailed for demonstrating love and care towards vulnerable children.

The organisations and some individuals organised an open fun day in Maun for Bana Ba Letsatsi (BBL) children in an effort to uplift their spirits and positively respond to the escalating incidents of gender based violence.

Beneficiaries were treated to recreational activities such as jumping castle, swimming, glass balls and pools among others.

Speaking during the event, North West District Council vice-chairperson, Mr Lekone Masoko, hailed the organisers for the activity that aimed at showering vulnerable children with love.

The initiative, he said, was a welcome development since vulnerable children deserved to be loved, supported and protected.

He said there was need to have diverse recreational facilities where families and vulnerable children could relax and have fun and joy.

Mr Masoko encouraged organisers to engage stakeholders to join forces when planning other activities in future.

An official from San Konnecxion, Ms Mosamarea Modirelabangwe, said vulnerable children needed great support since COVID-19 had slowed many activities.

Children, she said, needed love, care, guidance and protection as they were the future.

She acknowledged that the society was faced with many challenges such as gender based violence, abuse of orphans and vulnerable children as well as poor upbringing of children.

As such, she said the society should strengthen the core values of raising a child in order to achieve a better society for all.

Ms Modirelabangwe shared that children need to be both physically and psychosocially strong so to overcome challenges they encounter in their lives.

She said the theme was relevant noting that it was a profound Tswana proverb which simply emphasize the process of transferring knowledge from the old to the new adding that at San Konnecxion, they stand by it.

She also noted that the organization had conducted successful activities in the past citing open movie nights where they showcased local content from young producers and through art displays.

San Konnecxion is a company devoted to helping communities realise their control as well as unleash the power of partnerships, creating exciting and educational environment for enjoyment by all and the economic sustenance of the communities.

BBL executive coordinator, Ms Taboka Rotsi thanked the organizers for the initiative saying it was a wonderful outing to the children.

Some of the children, she said go to the cattle posts during weekends and ntroducing them to a different environment to have fun was a welcome development.

BBL she said was a haven for vulnerable children in Maun which strives to rehabilitate them back into schools and society.

She said they were doing such in partnership with the ministry of Basic Education.

The centre, she said was taking care of children instead of leaving them to roam the streets noting that children were offered psychosocial support, education, counseling, as well as providing food, medical attention, skills training. ENDS
