The former vice president, Lt Gen. Mompati Merafhe has called on Batswana to get education which would provide opportunities and better their lives.
Speaking during the Adopt-A-Child initiative at Daystar Primary School in Mahalapye recently, Lt Gen. Merafhe said education produced quality citizens and therefore urged parents to make sure that children who were the future leaders of tomorrow get learned.
He hailed the school for the initiative saying the school was playing a vital role in the society as well as promoting foreign investment in the village. Daystar Primary School was officially adopting a child from a disadvantaged background into the school.
For his part, the chairperson of the Parents, Teachers Association (PTA), Mr Emmanuel Kwape said the school was realising the Vision 2016 pillars of an educated and informed nation and that of ‘a just, compassionate and caring nation.’
Mr Kwape said the adopted child would be educated in the school from reception to standard seven. He also said the initiative was a way of eliminating poverty among Batswana adding that the initiative would permanently eradicate poverty in advance for the beneficiary as it was a life time opportunity of quality education and a different life experience.
As part of the initiative, he said Ba Isago College had pledged to contribute P3 000 for the next eight years for the up keeping of the beneficiary. Mr Kwape also called upon other companies and people to adopt children as part of the government initiative saying the little they do would make a huge difference. ENDS
