Good Hope senior assistant council secretary Mr Robert Rabasimane has commended men sector committee in Good Hope for making substantial progress in the fight against gender based violence (GBV).
Speaking on Tuesday October 13 during a workshop planned by the committee for councillors and head of departments, in Good Hope, Mr Rabasimane said spearheading these issues as men was an indication that the district had advanced and hoped that their dedication and team work would help curb the high number of GBV cases, which was a concern in the district.
On another point, Mr Rabasimane expressed concern about defilement cases, which continued to escalate in the district.
He condemned the culprits who continued having sexual intercourse with minors.
Mr Rabasimane urged the committee to organize village demonstrations about these issues so that the message reaches all.
He also encouraged them to work closely with the village leaders such as the Village Development Committee, Dikgosi to help fight this demon that was not only a problem in the district but in the whole country.
“Engage the police, social workers and other government departments too, to win this struggle “he said.
Reporting on defilement cases, Good Hope police Station Commissioner Superintendent Mogomotsi Kwapa said that from June to September this year they have received about 22 defilement cases
Men Sector chairperson, Mr Kgopolo Motsumi applauded councillors and head of departments for honouring their invitation.
He said he was content that the committee would do a tremendous job because of the support they were receiving from the community leaders.
Mr Motsumi indicated that the committee had already hosted workshops in different villages, where they addressed issues such as women abuse, teenage pregnancy, gender based violence, among others.
He said they had even hosted moon light sessions for the community as a way of reaching out to them and educating them about such issues.
On Wednesday they hosted a workshop for dikgosi to teach them about GBV issues so that no one in the community was left behind. ENDS
