Adam thanks government for water availability

15 Oct 2020

Kgosi Batshogile Adam of Shashemooke has praised government for ensuring that water is available in the village.

Speaking during an interview recently, Kgosi Adam explained that his village experienced serious water challenges at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak early this year.

He was therefore content that the recently commissioned booster pump station had alleviated the long outstanding acute shortage of water.

He said the booster pump ensured that pupils had access to handwashing facilities with soap and water to combat COVID-19.

“The spread of the COVID-19 has heightened public awareness about the importance of water sanitation during the scourge,” he emphasised.

Kgosi Adam explained that the booster pump station had improved residents’ livelihoods because they no longer wentfor days without drinking water like in the past.

He was nevertheless worried that the pressure was so high to the extent that some pipes were beginning to burst but thanked Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) for maintaining them on time.

He said part of the village, especially Newstance location, was the only area which was still experiencing shortage of water because it not yet connected to the pump station.

Kgosi Adam appealed to government to open a pipeline that would connect the ward to the pump station.

The booster pump station was commissioned recently by the Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila.

On other issues, Kgosi Adam kicked-off the ploughing season on October 11 and appealed to residents to plough in large numbers to contribute to the country’s food security.

He said it was through farming that Batswana could be self-reliant and appealed to government to speed up distribution of seeds to farmers.

Kgosi Adam also pleaded with tractor owners to up their game to avoid failing farmers who wanted to take advantage of the first rains.

He was ecstatic that construction of houses and other government projects had started in earnest in his village. Ends
