Do not despair - Khama

19 Sep 2013

Roads are developed according to the number of vehicles which use them, says President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting at Khwee in the Boteti South constituency September 19, President Khama explained that like any other developments, the tarring of roads was determined by the volume of traffic.

However, he urged Kwee residents not to despair and to keep on hoping that their road would be developed. President Khama was answering comments from Kgosi Gaboitsewe Daowe and the Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Roger Tauejele who had complained about the bad state of the road.

The two village leaders said they wished the Letlhakane/Khwee road could be tarred so that they could easily travel to Letlhakane where they get most of their services. President Khama donated 50 blankets and 75 shirts to the elderly and 20 chairs to the kgotla.

For his part, health minister, Dr John Seakgosing said corporal punishment was banned on the back after medical investigations revealed that it was not appropriate as it could lead to paralysis. He said there were sensitive nerves and veins which could be easily damaged during corporal punishment on the back.

On other issues, Dr Seakgosing explained that there was a shortage of government vehicles countrywide. He said government vehicles were stationed at the Central Transport Organisation (CTO) because of the bad state of roads and careless drivers.

The minister appealed to government drivers to take care of the vehicles as they assisted communities. He was answering a question from Mr Tauejele who had complained about the shortage of government vehicles in the village, saying all were at the CTO.

He also complained about the bad state of the primary school hostel and kitchen as well as the shortage of beds. He said due to shortage of beds pupils were forced to share. He decried the shortage of water in their village, saying they have two boreholes which could easily provide water for the whole village. ENDS
