Thamaga-Kubung road last graded in 2019
20 Sep 2020
Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulaganyo Segokgo has told Parliament that the Thamaga-Kubung road, which is about 22kms, was last graded in December 2019.
He said the road was part of the 471km road network which was under the Molepolole Depot, adding that the road network was graded by one grader on a rotational basis with in-house resources. Minister Segokgo said the grader had been under breakdown since January to March 2020, which had resulted in a backlog.
He said grading of the road had been outsourced to a small contractor in order to augment the backlog and would be on site from September 15 until completion while preparations were ongoing to procure a contractor for the long term through the District Administrative Tender Committee (DATC).
He further said the Thamaga-Kubung road was planned for NDP 11 and was budgeted for in the 2021/2022 financial year as part of the economic stimulus programme.
He, however, noted that given the current financial position, they would need to re-prioritise some of their planned projects.
Thamaga-Kumakwane MP, Mr Palelo Mataosane had asked the minister if he was aware of the current status of the road from Kubung to Thamaga: and if so, to state when the road was last graded and when the road would be tarred as it was planned for in the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Package II and the National Development Plan (NDP) 11 respectively.
