Mental Health day goes to Okavango

The Okavango Sub-district is to host the World Mental Health Day on October 10.

Addressing the sub-district’s development committee meeting recently, the assistant district commissioner, Mr Bakani Mathumo said the Gumare post office would also be officially opened on October 9, on the eve of the Mental Health Day.

“I encourage all to take part in preparing for this celebration,’’ he said.   As preparations for both the events are on-going at the moment, the district officer for development, Ms Kamogelo Letlotla said that they had involved the department of youth, together with Gumare post office to help them scout the youth for a beauty contest. This will be part of entertainment to honour the official opening of the post office and the World Post celebration day.

Gumare hospital psychiatric nurse, Ms NdingoTabengwa confirmed that the preparation for the World Mental Health day was in process. She said that in many occasions people do not understand what mental illness is, therefore it is time for people to attend the event so that they familiarise themselves with the issue.

Ms Tabengwa also said they will be focusing on health care of elderly people (Geriatrics) and also provide information on how to prevent and treat diseases and disabilities in elderly people. She said different organisations are expected to offer their products and services and both events are expected to be graced by different dignitaries from all over the country. ENDS
