No plans to turn Boseja clinics into 24-hour service facility

The Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe, says the ministry has extended working hours from midday to 4pm for all clinics in Maun.

He said extended hours were also applicable during weekends and holidays, adding that Ngami District Health Team had two dedicated ambulances to relieve the situation.

Therefore, he said there were no immediate plans to turn any of Boseja clinics in Maun into a 24 hour service facility.

“The ministry has initiated an extension of service hours at the clinics as a means of improving access to health services and as one of the key consideration in providing services in location,” he said.

Mr Lelatisitswe said when planning for availed wide access and for a facility to operate on a 24 hour basis, population dynamics, the distance from the nearest referral facility and availability were given priority.He further said improving access to services was a matter which the ministry had to manage equitability across the country.

Additionally, he said a continuous assessment, making adjustment and improvements will be conducted when funds are availed.

Mr Lelatisitswe was responding to a question asked in Parliament by the MP for Maun East, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile.Mr Kekgonegile had asked the minister if there were any plans to turn one of Boseja clinics in Maun into a 24 hour service  to help relieve Maun general hospital and to further elaborate on the plans with emphasis on location of the facility and intended operation strategy.ENDS
