Residents seek divine intervention

09 Sep 2020

Tati Siding residents, Monday, converged along the A1 road to pray for the end of road accidents that continue to claim lives of both motorists and pedestrians.

The residents, led by Kgosi Simon Nkgageng of Tati Siding, pastors and representatives from different denominations gathered at a T-Junction from Tonota side, where some accidents which claimed lives occurred in the past.

In an interview with BOPA, Kgosi Nkgageng said  the area had become a hotspot for road accident.

Kgosi Nkgageng explained that it was culture that traditional leaders also join in on such prayers to ask for God’s intervention to bring an end to the fatal road crashes.

“I think we need the spiritual cleansing of the area,” added Kgosi Nkgageng.

He also emphasised the need for the church to organise a mass prayer, where all churches would come together and seek God’s intervention to save lives.

Apostolic Faith Mission Church representative, Mr France Mulalu said it was the second roadside prayers to be held with the previous  held four years ago at the Francistown T-junction after four fatal accidents happened at the spot.

“We believe that with prayers, such deaths will come to an end’” he added.

Last month a good samaritan also died on the spot after a vehicle knocked him while trying to chase some donkeys from the road reserves.

In another accident, a pedestrian at a bus top was killed instantly by a bull dozer, which was coming from the other side of the road.

The roadside prayers came at a time when various church denominations across the country have joined forces to pray against HIV/AIDS and COVID-19. In 1996, the then  President, the late Sir Ketumile Masire declared September as a month of prayer for HIV/AIDS, where individuals, churches and organisations convened to pray for the end of the scourge.

This year, Parliament adopted a motion to include COVID-19 in such prayers. ENDS
