03 Sep 2020

Ministry of Basic Education (MoBE) Operations Chobe regional director, Ms Lillian Matshameko has commended Kasane Primary School for emerging the 2019 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) champions in the region.

Speaking at a ceremony to  award trophies to the school for the excellent performance September 2, Ms Matshameko said the prizes were aimed at motivating schools to excel as MoBE attaches great importance to quality education in line with producing 21st century learners who are globally competitive.

Ms Matshameko noted that although MoBE just like other sectors was affected by COVID-19 it continued to ensure that it stayed afloat and efforts to return to normalcy were on as indicated by the continuation of the academic calendar.

She requested Kasane Primary School to share with others their best practices and contribute in making the Chobe region an excellence hub.

Earlier in her welcome remarks, the school head, Ms Joyce Moje said in last year’s PSLE results the school attained 64 per cent in quality (AB) and 92.7 per in quantity (ABC).

She said the school was a member of the reading challenge competitions made up of 20 schools in the country and in 2018 when it joined it obtained position one while last year it got position two.

Ms Moje said challenges facing the school included low water pressure and poor internet. She appreciated all members of staff and Parent Teachers Association for their commitment in education.

Chobe district council chairperson, Mr Amos Mabuku said the awards would motivate learners and teachers across the district.

He urged learners to commit to their academics at an early age when challenges were still few. He assured the Kasane Primary School community that the council would address the issue of low water pressure to come up with a solution. Ends
