Legislators continued with their responses to the debate on NDP 11 mid-term review on September 2, under the thematic area of social upliftment.
Takatokwane MP, Mr Tshoganetso Leuwe applauded the Ministry of Health and Wellness, COVID-19 Presidential Task Team and all those who assisted in different capacities in the fight against the pandemic.
However, he urged government to provide healthcare workers with all necessary equipment as well as proper uniform in order for them to effectively carry out their duties.
Regarding water supply, Mr Leuwe thanked land management, water and sanitation services ministry for the provision of potable water to some areas in his constituency.
However, he pleaded with the ministry to connect water at Khudumelapye, adding that the village had more than 4 000 residents.
The Takatokwane MP said even though it was expensive to construct roads, government had to find ways to keep its promises to constituents, adding that roads that had the potential to bring developments to the constituency should be given priority.
He pleaded with the Minister of Trade, Investment and Industry, Ms Peggy Serame to consider re-opening of the alcohol industry, arguing that a lot of people were employed in such. For his part, Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West, Mr David Tshere indicated that the priority for his constituency was construction of storm water drainage system.
He said during rainy days, rain water destroyed peoples properties, both at homes as well as businesses, adding that there was need to construct a trench that would divert the water from the village.
Mr Tshere thanked the Minister for Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila for indicating that his ministry would connect water to areas where there was an acute shortage.
Lentsweletau- Mmopane MP, Ms Naniki Makwinja hailed the Ministry of health and Wellness and other stakeholders for the fight against COVID-19.
She indicated that healthcare services provision was a challenge in her constituency and urged government to assist in expanding the services.
Ms Makwinja said decentralisation of services to districts and sub-districts was a welcome development since it would make it easier for citizens to access services on time.
As a way of empowering farmers, Ms Makwinja suggested that government and councils should procure products such as school feeding products from farmers and businesses in those particular areas. Ends
