Ministry mainstreams HIVAIDS services
30 Aug 2020
The Ministry of Health and Wellness is gradually phasing out separate clinics for HIV/AIDS or IDCCS so as to intergrate HIV/AIDS packages into the mainstream services.
According to Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe most clinics had integrated HIV/AIDS services except where for practical reasons such as availability of space ‘we are unable to comply immediately’.
The assistant minister acknowledged that certain among their health facilities offered and dispense services to people living with HIV in a manner which was not advisable or recommended.
But, where there was such unacceptable practice, Mr Lelatisitswe said corrective measures would be taken.
"My statement, therefore acknowledges the underlying issue of stigmatisation and points to the acceptance that corrective action is necessary.
The corrective steps we are implementing are aimed at minimising stigmatisation," he said.
He was responding to a question from Kanye North MP, Mr Thapelo Letsholo on August 27, who had asked if the minister was aware that some health facilities segregate people living with HIV/AIDS by offering them counselling services and dispensing of medication in separate facilities and spaces. Ends
