Assemblies of God gives to Mpule Kwelagobe

17 Sep 2013

Assemblies of God church, Jwaneng branch, on September 14 donated P13 000 to Mpule Kwelagobe Children’s Centre.

Speaking at the handing over of the cheque, Reverend Baphuthegi Sebokonyane said the money would go towards the upkeep of the centre as well as  children’s care.

Reverend Sebokonyane said there was need to care for orphans and the needy because they were also worthy before the face of God. Therefore, he said the donation was intended to uplift their spirit and provide them with care to reduce the gap left by their biological parents.

He said churches should live the Vision 2016’s pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation, saying this should not be the government’s dream only. “Even in the Bible it is indicated that whoever takes care of such souls is showing respect to God himself,” he explained.

Reverend Sebokonyane further revealed that they had acquired a plot in nearby Sese village in which they had intentions to build an orphan centre. For his part, the deputy district commissioner, Mr Richard Boitshwarelo commended the commitment shown by different stakeholders toward attaining the goal of a compassionate and caring nation.

He applauded Assemblies of God for their effort to improve the lives of orphans and vulnerable children and encouraged them to solicit financial assistance from different organisations so that the children’s centre at Sese could be a success.

On behalf of Jwaneng Town council, Ms Nurse Oaitse applauded Assemblies of God, saying the church had been supporting orphaned children for many years. She encouraged children to attend different churches so that they could learn good moral values that could mould them into responsible citizens.

Furthermore, she noted that the Sese project would be a blessing because there were a lot of kids roaming the streets around Jwaneng. “It would also help reduce some of the social ills such as child rape,” she said.
