The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole has assured teachers that his ministry has put in place strategies that would help arrest the problem of shortage of accommodation for teachers.
Addressing teachers from Kweneng East during a brief meeting at Motswakhumo Junior Secondary School in Lentsweletau, Mr Masimolole said his ministry was committed to improving the country’s education system, which includes addressing the problem of shortage of accommodation.
He urged teachers to assist the government by renting out private houses.
“Do not despair, rest assured that government is concerned about improving your welfare,” said Mr Masimolole.
He urged teachers to come forth with their problems, adding that if the issues are objective he would be more than willing to give teachers audience and seek ways to assist them.
Mr Masimolole told teachers that their welfare was a priority to government.
Meanwhile, Kweneng chief education officer, Ms Roselinah Serumola said although they are aware of shortage of resources at Mmatseta, nothing can be done because the area does not qualify for Remote Area Service Allowance, and was better off than most areas in Kweneng West. She was responding to a query from Mmatseta school head, Ms
Malebogo Masupane who argued that Mmatseta should be classified under RASA. The area’s Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Rodgers Kgatitswe also called on the Ministry of Education to consider reversing its decision to delay the upgrading of Motswakhumo Junior Secondary School.
For his part, Kweneng East Member of Parliament, Major General Moeng Pheto urged Mr Masimilole to visit the area once more so that he can see the true picture of the environment under which teachers in the area are working. Ends
