The Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu has commended members of the regional immigrants’ selection board for working hard to ensure that they bring in investors who have skills that will help drive the economy.
Officially opening a consultative meeting of the selection board members in Mahalapye, Mr Batshu reminded board members that they are faced with a very important task of making tough decisions and bringing in relevant skills that are aligned with industry and market needs.
“You are doing a good job so far. I applaud you for your passion, tenacity and the commitment you invest for the good of the country. Government values the sacrifice, resilience, patriotism and commitment that you have demonstrated in your respective roles,” said Mr Batshu.
He added that the selection board plays a pivotal role in driving and achieving Botswana’s strategies economically, politically and socially.
He said Botswana was part of the global village where there was competition for foreign direct investment (FDI) and human capital, adding that it was through the selection board that Botswana has managed to realise this endeavour.
“You are not only gate keepers, but you also play a crucial role in ensuring that while taking care of the aspirations of Batswana, you remain true to your custodial responsibilities of preserving this country for the good of the future generations,” said Mr Batshu.
He assured the selection board of support and urged them to continue promoting good values. The meeting was held to reflect on progress made, address challenges that members of the board are faced with as well as redefine and solidify their purpose and seek ways to improve for effective service.
