BTC donates computers

Botswana Telecommunication Corporation (BTC) has donated computers worth P94 000 to Tonota Primary School's special education department.
Speaking at the event, BTC chief operations officer, Mr Anthony Masunga, said the special education students deserved equal opportunities. Mr Masunga noted, "that we are living in a world where technology can be a source of wealth and even boost economic diversification."
He cited social platforms like Facebook as living technological success adding that the computers would elevate the students’ knowledge of technology, which put them in equal stance with other students in developed countries.
Mr Masunga further said the improvement in examination performance by the primary school was a result of unity and cooperation between students and teachers. The area Member of Parliament, Mr Pono Moatlhodi, commended BTC for the gesture to special education students as it would help in making real the attainment of the national vision of or education for all.
Mr Moatlhodi said previously, 42 special education students were accommodated in one class, which was not conducive for their studies.
He also applauded Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) for building a class room for the students while Furnmart donated mattresses to them.
Mr Moathodi pleaded with BTC to extend the gesture to the other five primary schools in Tonota, so that all students could benefit.
He complained about parents who do not participate in Parents Teachers Association activities.
The MP appealed to parents to play a role in education of their children by working hand in hand with the teachers.
The school head, Ms Maria Siyangaphi, said the school currently has 51 intellectually challenged students and explained that the donation will benefit all the students in her school.
Ms Siyangaphi said so far they have roped in Choppies Supermarket, who have promised to hire some of the special education students after completion of their studies. Ends
