15 Sep 2013

Jwaneng youth were recently applauded and told that their involvement in the development of the town was essential.

Speaking during a meeting with the newly formed Jwaneng Youth Group, the town clerk, Mr Dick Kalantle, applauded the youth for forming a youth advocacy group, explaining that their involvement in the development of the town was necessary. In the past, he said, the youth have not been participating in the development of the town.

Mr Kalantle explained that the group would be a good channel for communication between the leadership and the youth in the diamond-mining town.

A member of the Jwaneng Youth Group, Ketlhaetse Tomas, said he was delighted that the leadership of the town recognised the efforts by the youth to get involved in the progress of young people and the town.

He encouraged the leaders of Jwaneng to support his group in its quest to develop the lives of the youth.

He added that Jwaneng Youth Group was new and therefore needed encouragement and support, adding that with support the group could help alleviate challenges such as unemployment and drug abuse.

The group which is formed with the objective of helping to create income-generating projects and reviving youth involvement in the development process, was encouraged by the deputy town clerk, Mr Odirile Mabaila, to visit the youth offices and learn more about government’s empowerment initiatives against unemployment.

He called upon the Jwaneng Youth Group to mobilise young Batswana in the town so that they could benefit from citizen empowerment programmes. The Jwaneng customary court president, Segale Letshele, said he hoped that high cases of youth involved in theft and drug abuse will decrease when they attend kgotla meetings and other forums in the town.

The chairperson of the Jwaneng Youth Group, Mr Benjamin Magosi, thanked the town’s leaders for meeting with them explaining that good relations between the management and the youth in the town were important as the youth are prepared to be actively involved in the growth of the town.

Mr Magosi called on other young people to join the group so that they could all benefit from development assistance. Ends
