Chinese community donates to SOS children

The Chinese business community in Botswana has donated P162 500 to the Serowe SOS to help in the running of the village.
Speaking at the handover of the donation and the groundbreaking ceremony of a borehole drilling, the Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama said it was the responsibility of all individuals to take good care of SOS Village children. He encouraged Batswana to join hands in providing for the children, as the organisation cannot manage alone.
Mr Khama, who is also the Member of Parliament for Serowe North West said SOS Village children need to be nurtured, loved, guided and protected at all times. Furthermore, he urged the business community and individual members of the community to always share the little they have with the organisation. He applauded JM drilling company for drilling a borehole for the SOS Village, saying it showed perseverance particularly that during the first attempt they hit a blank.
He commended the management of SOS and staff for taking care of the children. Minister Khama said keeping the Kindergarten wing open must be a priority for all as it helps mould the children. Welcoming the guests, the national director of SOS Village Mr Motshwari Kitso thanked JM Drilling Company saying having a borehole of their own would reduce their water bill which stands at P27 000 per month.
Mr Kitso said SOS Village’s monthly electricity bill stands at P17 000 a situation which he said made the running of the village difficult. However, he commended the Serowe residents for their continued support since the village opened some years ago. Mr Motshwari expressed fear that without donor support, the Village Kindergarten could close down.ENDS
