11 Sep 2013

Oral Health is a crucial part of the overall health of any human being.

Every nutritious item that is consumed for the purpose of nourishing one’s body passes through the mouth and it is through the mouth that we communicate our feelings and thoughts about our social environment:  Let us now imagine a situation where all these become impossible functions to do as human beings because of common oral conditions that could have been easily prevented.

The World Health Organisation has set aside the month of September as International Oral Health Month. September 12 is Oral Health Commemoration Day.  During this month, oral health organisations world over, provide information on prevention and treatment of common oral health conditions.

Likewise, the Dental Therapy Department at the Institute of Health Sciences, Gaborone will be running  a series of oral health information sharing articles that will cover an array of topics geared toward encourage oral health self care among us, Batswana.  The articles are structured to give information that an individual can use and follow without the need for an oral health specialist. These articles will run thrughout September.

Any person who, after reading the articles, feels he/she needs oral health attention may visit any Oral Health Clinic across the country but for further clarifications on any of the articles, please contact Mr Edward ND Letsholo at Tel: 3655734, Email: eletsholo@gov.bw.  ENDS
