Lesoma Primary School in the Chobe District is ready to re-open on June 2 for Standard Seven classes after schools were closed due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
School head, Ms Constance Mokoti said in an interview on May 15 that she was optimistic that the school would open on the set date, as maintenance of some structures would have been completed.
She said maintenance of the school was going on smoothly as most of the buildings that needed proper maintenance stood at over 80 per cent.
Ms Mokoti said some of maintenance done in the school included painting and installation of doors as well as toilets.
She said the other impressing work was that of the installation of hands washing basins in all the four blocks of the school including one at the night watchman’s gate, whilst the construction of a septic tank was also nearing completion.
In addition, she explained that the school kitchen had also been disinfected and that the second fumigation would be done next week.
“With the on-going maintenance more so that those engaged even work after hours and weekends, I think two weeks will be enough to complete what is left,” she added.
She explained further that other useful items such as refuse bins and the procurement of consumables such as sanitisers, soaps, toilet papers, masks, disposable gloves and jumbo rolls were being procured.
Regarding the procurement of water tanks, Ms Mokoti said only two out of the seven were not functional and would need maintenance.
Ms Mokoti stated that when the school re-opens, 39 Standard Seven students would be divided into two classes to promote social distancing.
She disclosed that when other students (Standard 1 to six) re-open later, the school would use two more extra blocks that included the school hall and the computer room. ENDS
