Avoid food aid pitfalls - Moagi

16 May 2020

The ongoing COVID-19 food distribution exercise is delicate and calls for cooperation of all community stakeholders, says Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Mr Lefoko Moagi.

Speaking at an event to receive food items from Tlokweng Welfare Society meant for Mogobane and Otse on May 16, Mr Moagi, who is also Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, said the situation if handled badly, could divide the community.

As such, he called on community leaders such as political leadership; district administration and tribal leadership to work hand in hand.

Mr Moagi stated that although public officers had been entrusted to spearhead the exercise, political and tribal leaders should offer much needed guidance during the exercise.

He also called for improvised working relations within the constituency to close all gaps, which could sow disunity in the villages.

Kgosi Mosadi Seboko of Balete also said community should work together to ensure that food packages reach intended people.

Kgosi Mosadi further commended Tlokweng Welfare Society for the donation to Mogobane and Otse communities. She stated that ‘charity does not stop the wealth of an individual hence the need for the community to help one another’.

Tlokweng Welfare Society treasurer, Mr Zanool Arbi said they donated food items worth P55 000 to Otse and Mogobane. He said although their organisation was small, they take delight in giving to the society, as that is what God values.

Further, he called on members of the community to work together adding that fighting COVID-19 needed all to set aside their political differences and work together for the good of the society.

Tlokweng Welfare Society is a charity organisation comprising mostly Tlokweng entrepreneurs. ENDS
