The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation is warning the public about a fake Facebook account claiming to be that of the ministry.

A press release from the ministry says the account has re-issued several posts advertising false funding opportunities.

The release says the posts falsely inform the public that the minister, Dr Unity Dow, will facilitate opportunities for 1 000 people to receive funding from the European Union Development Fund Programme for small business development and farming.

It says the ministry warns the public that it is a scam being facilitated through the fake Facebook account.

In addition, the release says the ministry wishes to underscore that the minister nor the ministry are not facilitating the purported funding opportunities for small businesses. The public is, therefore, strongly advised not to respond to the fraudulent posts or provide any personal information to the fake account.

“The ministry further encourages the public to report anyone who contacts them through the Facebook account to the nearest Botswana Police Station,” says the release. ENDS
