13 May 2020

Mowana Copper Mine has donated food hampers worth P10 000 to people affected by the COVID-19 extreme social distancing.

Handing over the food hampers in Mosetse on May 12, mine plant manager, Mr Lloyd Nyoka noted that their mine was still under judicial management.

He, however, said despite their status, they found it important to assist government to help needy families within their community.

He said they heeded President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s plea for Batswana and businesses to join hands with government and provide assistance during this period.

He said they were aware how difficult it had been for most people hence they saw it fit to assist those in need within their community.

Mr Nyoka added that the mine was proud to be part of the Mosetse community, and that through their social responsibility programme, they would continue to explore areas through, which they could assist communities.

He expressed hope that their gesture would help alleviate some of the difficulties faced by people due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nata/Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga appreciated the mine gesture. He called on other stakeholders to assist government to reach out to communities.

For his part, principal social and community development officer for Mosetse-Marapong, Mr Lebonye Motlamma said they had identified 47 and 48 families in Dukwi and Mosetse respectively who were left out during assessments and would benefit from the donation. ENDS
