Companies come to the table

Butsa-butsa Village Development Society from Mabutsane has registered its name among the good samaritans that have so far donated to individuals and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic affected.


Speaking at the donation ceremony at Mabutsane on Saturday, the trust’s patron, Mr Ketlhomilwe Moletsane said that the trust had raised a total of P6 550 through contributions, of which P1 500 was deposited into the COVID-19 Relief fund.

“We then used the remainder of the funds to buy items such as soaps, gloves and masks,” he said.

He said that their aim was to play a role in the general development of the village, such as encouraging unity among the youth and organising entertainment for them as well as advocating for health promotion.

Mr Moletsane also said that the trust had been donating to the village on different occasions for years, and pleaded with the village leadership to always engage them on development matters affecting the village.

Jwaneng-Mabutsane MP Mr Mephato Reatile hailed the move by the society, noting it was their hope the gesture would inspire other villages in the constituency.

He said that the trust, which is known in the area for hosting music festivals in the village during the festive season, had shown that it had general interests of the village at heart and not just entertainment.
 

Still on Saturday, Mega Mining Equipment donated a total of 62 blankets and male jerseys to some families that have been affected by lockdown at Kutuku, a village on the outskirts of Khakhea in the Mabutsane sub-district.
 
Speaking at the event, Mega Mining Equipment representative, Ms Tshepiso Mopipi said that as a company, they were compelled to assist after President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi made a plea to companies and individuals to assist during the pandemic.

She however said that because most companies focused on items such as sanitisers and masks, they decided to also include blankets and clothes.

“We noted that COVID-19 pandemic has really affected countries that have their winter periods between December and April, and for this reason we decided to help with blankets before the winter season arrived,” she said.

She said that they also included 200 sanitary pads, 30 sanitizers, masks, gloves and an assortment of soaps for general use by the village.

Ms Mopipi said the donation will help cultivate good working relations between their company and the communities around their working environment. ENDS
