Maun Administrative Authority (MAA) deputy district commissioner, Ms Goitseone Nkwe-Tabane, has praised the business community for joining hands with government to mitigate spread and effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
The local authority, she said, enjoyed warm support since they continued to receive pledges and donations from companies, organisations and individuals.
She made the remarks during a handing over of goods from Maun Business Trading Group, Delta Continental Field Construction, Sanitize Maun, Ngamiland School of Excellence and Khoemacau Copper Mine.
Ms Nkwe-Tabane said they had received a lot of donations of food hampers of which they requested the donors to align them to the government food packages.
In addition, she noted that they had registered all the companies, organizations and individuals that assisted during the trying times and forwarded a report to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development for appreciation.
Meanwhile, Maun Business Trading Group donated 20 food combos worth P3 400 and P7000 towards the COVID-19 Relief Fund, Delta Continental Field Construction donated 10 food combos worth P2 800 to be distributed towards the less privileged society.
Ngamiland School of Excellence showed support by contributing packs of soap and lotions respectively while Sanitize Maun pledged transport comprising of 15 trucks, 60 vehicles and air transport to assist in distributing of food hampers to beneficiaries in different areas.
The company also donated 4000 liters of sanitizers, masks to frontline workers and also offered a warehouse to be used as storage facility in an effort to relief the government warehouse at Food Resources Services (FRS), which was reported to be currently full.
Mr Tebogo Boalotswe of Sanitize Maun said they were eager to assist where there was need. He urged the local authority to forward their requests any time, adding that they were ready to assist even beyond the COVID 19 pandemic.
Khoemacau Mine and its contractors donated food hampers worth P215 000 to the national COVID-19 Relief Fund.
The contractors, which joined hands with the mine in its initiative included Fresh Camp Services, SMEI, Concor, ZISMO, National and Overseas, Fluor and Mitchell Drilling among others.
The mine general manager, Mr Kevin Moxham said the donation was a direct response to the government’s appeal for the private sector, individuals and general public to assist in every way possible in the fight against the pandemic.
For his part, MAA chairperson, Cllr Vepaune Moreti thanked the business community for playing a critical role during tough times.
Their efforts and support, he said, came at the right time as they experienced shortage of food items in some beneficiaries’ packages.
Some residents, he said, were psychologically affected because they were grounded and could not enjoy their normal lives and stated that their support would bring them hope.
“We are overwhelmed by your warm support even though you had been affected. Your support is an indication that together, we can overcome the pandemic,” he added. Ends
