Institute donates learning material

Confucius Institute University of Botswana (CIUB) has donated learning material to various schools across the country.

The donation worth about P30 000 included books, videos, t-shirts and footballs would be shared amongst seven schools country wide.

Speaking during the handing over of part of the donation in Serowe recently, the director of the Chinese delegation that made the donation, Mr Chen Zhilu, underscored that the Chinese government’s priority was education and technology.

In partnership with the education ministry, he said the institute identified seven schools; three primaries and four junior schools that received donations across the country. Their efforts, he said, would encourage students to study hard and contribute positively in the economy of their country.

The students had the opportunity to learn basic Chinese martial arts, basic daily Chinese language, character writing, and paper cutting and also watching a movie. During the donation tour in all seven schools, Mr Chen said the delegation had an opportunity to learn about Botswana educational system and also to display Chinese culture to the Botswana students

In addition, he said the tour afforded their instructors /lectures the opportunity to appreciate the education environment outside the city. Speaking on behalf Dinokwane Primary School in Serowe, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) vice chairman, Pastor Terrence Zitha said, they appreciated the help they got from the Institution.

He said as the PTA their desire was to see some of the students benefitting from the donation studying in China through cultural exchange programme.Ends
