09 Sep 2013
Palapye Administration Authority councillors have expressed concern over a relationship between them and Palapye sub-land Board. Councillors made this complaint during the sub-council meeting on September 6.
Councillor Dithapelo Tshotlego of Palapye said the land board was supposed to respond to the motions passed in the last council but it was disappointing that no response had been given to date.
The council had passed a motion tabled by councillor for Lotsane ward, Mr Lesego Setlhare requesting Palapye Sub-land Board to allocate residential plots to people at the Lotsane flood plain in view of the continued provision of facilities and services in the area.
The council had also adopted a motion requesting the sub-land board to stop demarcation of plots and allocation of ploughing fields at Maotokgonyana and immediately under take consultations that will involve Ngwato land board and palapye sub council on the said fields.
The motion was tabled by councilor for Tamasane, Mr Ketogetswe Sekwati. Councilor for Lecheng/Malaka ward Mr Charles Mabjweng expressed concern over the absence of the land board secretary without any apology during the council meeting despite that the land board should seat in the council.
This, he said showed that the land board did not take this council seriously. Councillor for Morupule ward, Mr Jonathan Makhura said he was not happy with the relationship between the councilors and the land board, saying that this situation should be arrested before it got out of hands.
The council chairman, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi said the council and land board should work together to serve Palapye community. He said the issue of absenteeism of the land board was not new as such was of serious concern. He said he will take up this issue with the relevant authority so that the issue was addressed.
The land board secretary, Mr Boikago Maswabi said in an interview that he could not attend the sub-council due to other commitments. He said he informed the chairman and SACS that the two motions would be taken to the board which will take a decision regarding the two issues.
He said after this the land board will be in a better position to inform the councilors about the land board’s response pertaining the two motions.
He said as far as he knew palapye sub land board had a good relationship with councilors, adding that the land board could not do anything without consultation. Ends
