Youth cautioned against drug abuse

09 Sep 2013

'Drugs and alcohol will destroy your life. Drugs and alcohol will destroy your future.'

These chilling words were drummed into the minds of young people who gathered at a learning workshop at Linchwe Community Junior Secondary School in Mochudi on Septemeber 6.

Botswana Substance Abuse Support Network (BOSASNET) counselor, Ms Leah Senwelo reminded the young people that they were the country’s future leaders and that by taking drugs and alcohol, they were destroying their future.

Ms Senwelo encouraged all stakeholders to work together to make sure that a solution to the rampant problem of drugs and alcohol was found.

She also called for access to information and education on drugs and alcohol for all. She added working with the police to broaden youth participation in crime for a secure nation by 2016 would help curb the disease.

She said BOSASNET provided substance abuse education, prevention and rehabilitation services and that the organisation’s doors were open to any young person struggling with drugs and alcohol.

Chairperson of Mochudi Crime Prevention Committee, Mrs Sekhethelo Thathau said they wanted the youth to participate in anti-drug and alcohol abuse programmes so that they could take responsibility for their lives and help counsel their peers.Ends
