Women must balance their lives
08 Sep 2013
It is important for women to learn to balance their lives, especially when they grow up to be wives, mothers and career women.
Debswana group manager public & corporate affairs , Ms Esther Kanaimba-Senai said at a Femininity 1st conference in Gaborone on September 4.
Ms Kanaimba-Senai said although a lot of women knew they had to balance the act, they sometimes failed to do it as one aspect always suffered more than the other.
She said success and being at the top of the corporate ladder should not take away femininity and capability to be a good mother and wife.
Career women, Ms Kanaimba-Senai said, had been for decades been responsible, not necessarily by choice for maintaining and raising more responsible people.
Most women, she said raised children the best way they knew how while at the same time taking care of their husbands. These women, she said were driven by maternal instincts. Many times these instincts followed them to the office.
She also encouraged other women who managed to climb the corporate ladder successfully to inspire young women to achieve their goals and find ways to balance the act.
Earlier on when welcoming guests who were mostly young women, Femininity 1st managing director, Ms Kefilwe Mukokomani encouraged the young women not to be changed for the worst by the situation they find themselves in.
Ms Mukokomani encouraged the young women to find inner peace and build beneficial relations. She encouraged all to ensure that they looked back at decisions that led them to being people of virtue.
The conference sought to educate and empower people on qualities of being a person of value in the community.
The conference also had other speakers in the likes of University of Botswana Careers and Counseling director, Dr Lucky Odirile and Ms Mabote who taught on the importance of “me time” as well as emotional intelligence.
Psychologists, Ms Tshegofatso Mmolawa and Dr Didi Biorn also taught on upbringing and functioning in the workplace as well as the importance of finding one’s passion. Ends
