Employees Savingram suspended

17 Mar 2020

A savingram placing all former Industrial Class employees working shifts in 24-hour facilities on night duty remains suspended pending completion of the exercise by a task force in June 2020.

This was said by the Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe in Parliament on March 16.

Mr Lelatisitswe said the rationale behind the savingram which was to normalise the inconsistency in the application of shift work and night duty across health facilities had remained difficult to implement.

He noted that the savingram, which was released on March 6, 2019, did not clearly state which cadres were affected and how the working system would operate and had since been suspended in July 2019.

In the meantime, the assistant minister said a task force of nine members had been appointed to assess all cadres working shifts and night duty and the allowances attached thereof.

The team would also assess hours worked in each shift and the night duty, standby working system and also look into the labour laws regulating shift work, night duty and standby.

The assessment would be done in order to finalise and make a decision based on findings after which work hours would be standardised for all the former industrial class employees. Ends
