Orange Botswana has donated 50 tablets to Sekhutlane Primary school as part of the organisation’s digital school programme.
Speaking at handover of the digital kit in Sekhutlane in the Southern District recently, Orange chief executive officer Dr Patrick Benon said the company was aware that not every school had an opportunity to access and use technology.
“The content in the digital kit has been designed to be highly interactive to create and build interests in the mind of young learners,” he said.
The package included 50 tablets, two raspberry pi servers, one video projector, headphones and 11 multi-socket adaptors.
He said the programme, which was launched in 2018, in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic Education and of Local Government and Rural Development, aimed at developing a pupil who could use the power of technology.
He also talked of the programme’s benefits that included training teachers to use information and communication technology as a medium of teaching and to prepare pupils for the fourth industrial revolution.
For his part, Member of Parliament for Good HopeMabule, Mr Eric Molale, applauded Orange Botswana for providing primary school learners with an opportunity to share practical experience of ICT.
He also said the initiative supported government’s transformation agenda.
Mr Molale said the initiative was an opportunity to appreciate collaborative efforts between government and the private sector.
He said the programme had already benefitted 11 schools in the country and urged teachers and learners at the school to treasure the gift. Ends
