Kaboyakgosi calls for pursuance of excellence

Employees of Letlhakeng Sub-district Council have been urged to pursue excellence.

Speaking during the sub-district’s award ceremony in Letlhakeng recently, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology vice chancellor, Dr Gape Kaboyakgosi said award ceremonies recognised and celebrated those who did well.

He said those not awarded should be challenged one to introspect and work hard.

He said challenges faced by the council and its employees required self-application, continuous self-improvement and honesty in assessing one’s contribution.

The vice chancellor added that even though government could introduce incentives to motivate employees, they should have the zeal to perform exceptionally well in addition to other  reinforcements.

Dr Kaboyakgosi said government continued to come up with initiatives to transform the public service.

“These efforts are anchored on the mandate to promote sound opportunities for women and men to attain decent and productive working conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity,” he said.

Dr Kaboyakgosi challenged council employees to participate in learning and bringing new processes, participate in work improvement teams and become accustomed to policies and programmess.

The assistant council secretary, Mr Tumelo Seboko, said the awards were meant to recognise outstanding performance and honour employees for their contribution to the Letlhakeng Sub-district Council.

He said they also wanted to increase retention of mid to high performers and improve employee performance and productivity.

In his welcome remarks, Letlhakeng Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Meshack Tshenyego said performance played a critical role in service delivery.

He said employees had shown commitment and determination to serve the people of Letlhakeng and they deserved to be celebrated in style.

Mr Tshenyego said rewards are a motivation to employees to continue serving Batswana and help the council achieve its mandate.

In his vote of thanks, the senior assistant council secretary, Mr Joseph Segopa, said they remained thankful to stakeholders who ensured that the awards were a success.

He thanked several sponsors for sponsoring the event.

The awards included best change agent, best innovator, most improved employee, best employee per department, long service awards, best team and overall annual performer among others.

Messrs Rapula Molepolole and Dile Nguni both walked away with the highest award of the best annual performer.

Mr Molepolole also walked away with the coveted award of the SACS award together with best performer in council management, while Nguni also got an award for best performer in the electrical department. ENDS
