02 Feb 2020

Minergy Coal Mine general manager has commended Kweneng District Council for striving for excellence in service delivery.

Mr Siyani Makwakwago was speaking at the Molepolole Administration Authority/Lentsweletau Sub-council and Kweneng District Council headquarters excellence awards recently.

He emphasised that it was ideal for institutions to celebrate excellence since service delivery in the country was of great concern.

“Poor service delivery has not only demoralised those who seek services, but has left a permanent stench in the image of the public sector.

Service delivery in this country is a big issue and for us to be celebrating excellence today is a big thing,” he said.

Again, he said such accolades were a result of the Kweneng District Council staff dedication and their ability to be innovative and provide leadership in finding solutions to pertinent service delivery bottlenecks. Therefore, he congratulated award recipients for their dedication, adding that they deserved to be honoured since they had explored the limited resources available in their various departments, maximised them and ensured that they achieved optimal results.

He reiterated that a quality service culture was essential in sustaining and driving the public service, which had become increasingly service oriented.

Further, he said valuable contribution that public servants had made over the years in entrenching a quality customer service culture in the society were highly regarded in many quarters.

Kweneng District Council chairperson, Mr Motlhopi Leo advised the council staff to shun corruption and instead fight for the development of the district.

He stated that part of the celebrations was aimed at educating the public about the council and its value.

Explaining the event objectives, senior assistant council secretary Mr Gofaone Kgabanyane said the awards were meant to motivate staff as well as appreciate those who performed outstandingly.

Again, he said the awards were used as a staff retention strategy, thereby entrenching trust, confidence as well as loyalty among staff members.

Ms Onyana Rantshonya, a messenger, who walked away with three awards in the categories of best customer service, best performer in human resources and administration and deputy council chairman’s award, shared that her secret of excellent service delivery was that she never left work incomplete even if it meant putting  in extra hours.
