Company promotes technology usage

29 Jan 2020

A 25 year old Maun lad, Mr Eugene Markus has formed a company to help ease doing business through utilisation of technology among young people.

He said in an interview that the company named HLG provides an e-commerce platform for entrepreneurs, aspiring ones and those willing to buy or advertise their products and services at their comfort zone online, be it building materials, food among others.

Though the business is two months old, he said it had already established partnerships with corporate institutions such as accommodation facilities, beauty spars, noting that people could do bookings through the company.

He stated the business, located at old mall shopping centre was flourishing as young people were already utilising the services.

Mr Markus noted that young people had been making efforts to fully utilise available government programmes to uplift their livelihoods but many decried lack of market to sell their products. He said HLG would be an answer to their challenge, assisting them to reach the national and international markets.

In addition, he said Africans including Batswana were good in trading and believed that through the services he provided, they would trade easily and network.

“I believe our services would also encourage trading at a continental level. Although we are still focusing in the Ngamiland area but our goal is to take the company nationally to address the issue of lack of market,” he added. The optimistic young man said HLG would grow as young people, who are the main target, had welcomed it.

Mr Markus urged young people to visit their website to appreciate more about the company and how they could benefit better. As part of their corporate social responsibility initiative, the company has organized a seminar which would bring different government departments and parastatals representatives to drill young people on government initiatives they could tap into.

The seminar scheduled for January 31 at Parkview Selective Hotel targets between 50-60 young people in Maun.

He said through the event, facilitators would sensitize young people on programs designed to aid them in an effort to fight unemployment.

Another official from the company, Mr Aron Kgope said most young people were in business but some were stuck in terms of growing their businesses and create employment opportunities for others and believed that through the seminar, participants would know where to access financial assistance. He said parastatals such as Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency’s (CEDA) Mabogo Dinku offered services and programs young people could take advantage of. ENDS
